A Tester Briefing Email That Gets People to Actually Test
· 3 min read
Most tester recruitment fails because the ask is unclear. Below is a short, copy-paste-ready briefing that has worked across several indie launches.
The template
Hi [Name],
I'm launching [App Name] on Google Play and need 12 testers for 14 days to satisfy Google's new closed-testing requirement. Would you help?
What it takes from you:
- Click this link on your Android phone: [opt-in URL]
- Tap “Become a tester”.
- Install the app from Play Store (you'll see “You're a tester”).
- Open it once. Leave it installed for 14 days. You don't need to use it daily.
That's it. I'll send a single check-in on day 7. Happy to test your app in return whenever you need.
Thanks!
Why it works
- Explains the “why” in one sentence (Google's rule, not your whim).
- Three numbered actions, no jargon.
- Sets expectation: one check-in, not daily nagging.
- Offers reciprocity — they'll need testers too.
