How to Invite Testers to Google Play Closed Testing

Play Console offers three ways to invite testers to a closed track. They feel similar but behave differently.

1. Email list

Paste comma-separated Google emails. Simplest. Each tester gets an opt-in URL automatically. Best for <50 testers.

2. Google Group

Create a Google Group, paste the group address into Play Console. Anyone in the group is a tester. Best when testers self-manage join/leave.

3. Opt-in URL

Public URL anyone can click to become a tester. Best for community recruitment. Note: this is still “closed” testing — Google doesn't list it publicly.

Which one Google recommends

For the 12-tester gate, Google's docs lean toward email list or Google Group because it's easier to verify the testers exist. The opt-in URL is fine in practice as long as you confirm 12 distinct accounts opt in.
